14 Poses To Use a Yoga Block and Level Up Your Home Practice!

Ever wondered what a yoga block is for? Other than using it as a door stop of course!

First off, let’s talk a little bit about what they are and what kind you should get!

Yoga blocks are great for helping align your body in poses. They can help you reach the ground easier and balance when needing extra support! I’ll show you in a second!

Oh and they’re great for added weight in warrior stances or even chair pose!

Okay, so there are two types of yoga blocks that I’m aware of! One being the typical foam yoga blocks, some are heavy and some are really light.

They’re usually pretty affordable and easy to carry!

Next, we’ve got the cork yoga blocks. My favorite! They’re sturdy and support your weight better. These are the ones you want to use for added weight if you’re going to go that route.

However cork blocks are a little more pricey and tend to be bulky to carry around! But they’re my go to in my home yoga space!

Okay, so what are some pose ideas we can use a block in?!

First off you can use a block the following poses

  • Warrior 3
  • Half Moon
  • Side angle
  • Pyramid

Most of these are for alignment and a little balance!

Next up:

  • Wide legged forward fold
  • Buddha squat
  • Half splits
  • Standing Forward Fold
  • Chair (block between the knees for alignment)
  • Triangle

These poses are mostly for added support, making it easier to level up your practice.

  • Fish (block between shoulder blades)
  • Bridge (block under low back)
  • Waterfall (block under tail)
  • Sleepy Pigeon (block under forehead)
