7 Ways To Root and Rise For The New Year

I’m a flighty person, I tend to let my emotions run my day. I’m all over the place and seem to get ahead of myself, as well as everyone else very quickly. Then before I know it I am slamming on the brakes and thinking about everything that can go wrong. I forget to notice that I am present and I should just be enjoying the process.

We get so caught up in being perfect, acting the part, and exceeding our expectations. We get so caught up in being a critique instead of recording the wins. The world conditions us to believe we need more, than we currently have. This gives us the sense of being constantly uncomfortable. Don’t get me wrong, I am all about manifesting and getting the life you deserve. However, within that process comes a stillness we should be embracing instead of running from.Get okay with being uncomfortable and embrace the little things that you’ll one day miss.

Okay, so where are we going here?

All of this gathered up negativity, greed, uncomfortable feelings, confusion, insecurity, being all over the place…the list goes on. This is all imbalance of our root chakra. As we enter a fresh year with fresh intentions, this is the time we need our root chakra the most! This is your time to really release, root, and rise!

I’ve got a few tips to assist you with just that!

But wait, first thing is first. Let’s learn just a little bit about our root chakra…It is located at the base of your spine where your perineum is and your pelvic region. This is what is in charge of your survival, support, and foundation. In Sanskrit it is called, Muladhara.

So, imbalances can show up in the form, of fear, feeling out of control, stomach pains, anger, greed, lack of confidence, impatience, feeling stuck, etc.

What can we do to re-align ourselves with the world and start conquering the year? Here we go!

Power Stance:

Before you do this set some intention of what you want to let go of, and what you want to take in. Get bold and specific.

The best way to do this is to be barefoot outside; the earth is very grounding for us. You see, we release energy through our feet, and intake energy through our hands. Soak in the energy from the sun, and goodness above. The goal is to become a vessel of energy by letting everything just flow.

This stance may feel silly and you might want to look around to see who’s watching, but just let it all be! Do it, get out of that comfort zone.

Healing Stones:

Yogi’s, I am a huge lover of healing stones. I remember the first time my friend brought these to my attention and I looked at her like she had some magic fruit I didn’t believe in. What I noticed as I carried some around is that the energy they were supposed to have, was really manifesting in odd ways. I wondered if it was just because I was more aware, which I was totally okay with. Then one day she did an activity with me. She had me close my eyes and she’d hover a stone above my hand and I’d tell her the energy I felt. Every time we did this I was spot on with the energy the rock was meant to cultivate. Wow!

So, if you want to see what they’ll do for you. Most root chakra stones are going to be red or very dark in color. My favorite thing to do is go to my local crystal shop and just walk around until something calls for me. Normally once I research the meaning of the stone, I think YES this is exactly what I needed! It can be fun to just get a few and make a necklace, keep them in your pocket, put them on a dream catcher, a dresser, or whatever you want!

Let Go, Release, and Rejuvenate: 

It is time to get in-tune with your desires, and cultivate feelings you have only dreamed of before. It is time to set intentions that we are going to see surface this year. Grab a journal and pen. If meditation calls for you here do it, if yoga calls for you, do it. If anything else calls for you, that makes you feel your true and authentic self, do it.

Write down the things that you are ready to set free. Let go, and make space for new energy that will fuel a better you. Give those things a big hug, and say goodbye. Our root chakra doesn’t like to hold onto things, especially one’s that are old and serve no purpose. Once you learn how you best release things it becomes easier to do so. You’ll notice a huge shift in the way you move, think, and feel.

The Great Outdoors: 

Mother nature really knows how to give us healing. Wherever you are in the world, go to your favorite space outside, or explore a new adventure. I love being outside, because it gives me feelings of stillness, peace, and tranquility. Especially when I watch the sun go down, and the night sky set in. I love to get places that have a great view, there is something about being higher up that gives me a sense of power, but smallness. It’s empowering, yet humbling.

The point here is that if you are feeling the need to ground yourself the outdoors are a simple yet freeing way to do so.

Give Yourself a Break:

If possible, just give yourself a break, small or big, it really doesn’t matter. It can be so healing for us to let things be and just do something out of the norm to feel on the right track again. Take a vacation and explore a new culture if you can. We can learn a lot when we take ourselves outside of the box for a bit.

Tea Time: 

Aww, yes, this is my favorite time of year. I get obsessed with tea in the winter, because for one well, it’s cold. For two, it gives me an odd sense of being present. Just enjoying the hot water, mixed with some herbal goodness. Yes please!

I know that most tea’s that come from a root, are going to be a winner! Hmm, could of guess that one huh?

Affirmations:

I am a big fan of affirmations and a daily mantra. I believe in the power of repetitive words to guide me and steer me in a better direction. Great affirmations for your root chakra can be:

  • I am in the present moment and I am safe.
  • I am exactly where I need to be.
  • I am enjoying the process.
  • I am abundant and have everything I need.
  • I am calm and in control of my emotions/feelings.
  • I believe in my ability to succeed in my own desires.
  • I am in control of what I can control and release the things I can not.

These are all things that I constantly have to work on. It is just the kind of person I am. Fear is something I am working on setting free. I used to be so fearless and I’d like to take that person back. It is okay to have flaws, and embrace them. But some need to be worked on and that’s okay too. Honor the person you are, the things that do not serve you, and things that give you purpose. This life is meant to be embraced with open arms. We aren’t meant to hold ourselves back, but we aren’t perfect either. Know that you do not need to be the person you think you need to be. You need to be exactly you, exactly how you come.
