build a home yoga practice on & off the mat
Is your space zen enough? Do you lack good energy to guide your flow? Is there too much going on around you? I’m willing to share some tips and tricks for an OMazing yoga practice anywhere! :If you’re anything like me, you get distracted easily. You like your surroundings to be comfortable. Maybe you just want a little more breathing room. 1: Inside or Outside? I love to practice outside. If the weather is good at least. Going to the park is awesome, especially if you can find a spot next to some trees. Try not to get concerned with who might be watching. Truth is they probably aren’t, and if they are its probably because they’re impressed. The mountains are super awesome and grounding. If you have the luxury to practice at the beach I am so jealous! So get out there, get a sun tan while you practice. 2: Less is more: Clear a good space that is a little bigger than just where you’re mat will fit. If you can try to make the space empty around you, or at least a good 3 foot radius tidy. Make the room on the warmer side. Harder floors will be easier to ground yourself into. TIP: If you have the luxury of a separate room for your yoga space. Then make it a space only for yoga. Don’t sleep in that room. Make it your own holy place. Maybe hang some lovely art. 3: Get a little romantic with yourself: Be kind to yourself. Light some candles, insense, and get cozy! Set the mood just right. Tealights are perfect for setting a good mood. Salt lamp anyone? Decorate, and give a type of ambiance that makes your heart happy. P.s. My favorite incense is Goloka (yellow-orange box) isn’t too strong and smells awesome! 4: Get Earthy: Give each asana some life! Set some plants, succulents, and flowers around the room. You deserve good vibes. Could even be good for some drishti action. 5: Don’t be a mess: Do you have a block, strap, yogi toes, towel, etc? Place them nicely around. Organize everything around to meet your eye. Have things in good reach, but things shouldn’t be in your way. Minimize clutter around, or get rid of it. If you’re outside clear any rocks, twigs, leafs, etc. Nothing should be in your way. 6: Silence!: As quiet as you can get a room, get it there. Put on some soft music to eliminate outside distractions. Turn on your breath, and let your thoughts go. 7: Go away outside world: I see you over there checking your text messages in between stretches. Put your phone on airplane mode. Turn off the T.V. No distractions. I’m serious. You’ll enjoy the nice break. I promise. 8: Sounds Around: Get a sound bowl, a wind chime, or something that make lovely sounds. Sound bowls are great for meditation. Maybe get some soft music. Sounds should be light, and not over barring. Unless, you’re the heavy metal yoga type. Yes, that exists. Not really my style.
