build a home yoga practice on & off the mat
Everything always comes back to the “why?”. We have been conditioned to question what we do. Usually others are drawn to yoga for the physical aspect of it, they want to look better, or feel better. Pretty black and white over here in the western world. There is so much more to yoga when you dive deep down. If I had to pick some supers simple reasons these would be the top 5 reasons you should start TODAY! 1:It’s Tons Fun: I started yoga, because it looked like so much fun. I wanted to bend upside down and look good doing it. I was tired of running on the treadmill, and staring at the wall. Simply, I was bored of the gym. Previously in life, I had taken dance, and yoga seemed to be the more adult version that I was drawn to. It called to me. The very moment I started yoga I knew it wasn’t just a phase. I knew it was something I wanted to master. The deeper I dive in the more I truly fall in love with this incredible exercise. It is amazing to say the least and I know you will love it too. 2. Flexibility I am not just talking about getting bendy. Believe it or not, flexibility can help you do a lot more than you might see inside the box. I have noticed my hiking is better, my strides I take are longer, and that damn pen on the floor is a lot closer than before. Yoga creeps into your daily life and shows you its working in little ways too. Notice that as your body gets flexible your mind and self does too. You will be less likely to stress out over silly situations which is the true practice of yoga. Create more flexibility in a daily schedule. See for yourself grow in ways you never realized were coming. 3: Push yourself: This can help your motivation on and off the mat, which is what we are all about on The Yogiste. Using the tools we learn in my daily life not just when working on your practice. Do things you couldn’t do before you started. Of course, pushing yourself to do better can improve other parts of you too. It helps to let it know that you CAN always do MORE! Train your mind, train your body, and train yourself as a whole. Improve all aspects of YOUR life. The times that we sell ourselves short of potential will lessen. STOP… Get BOLD! 4: Meet Others: Yoga isn’t just a one man band like you might think… It actually is a great way to learn from others, and interact with others. Slide your mat towards the front of the room and see who you can get to know! It is all about commUNITY. Build up with others around you and see what it can create. I actually enjoy being in the middle of the room when I practice. Gives me opportunity to soak in other energy, gain motivation, and meet fellow yogi’s. Besides at a studio where you can interact with others. Online is a great place too! Social media does a great job of connecting us around the world. I have found, yogi’s love to connect, and you can gain great motivation and inspiration from them too. 5: Learn to relax: Seriously? How about some damn peace and quiet? Anyone else long for more of this? I swear the busier this world gets, the bigger, and the better. The more I have less time in the bath. (Oooo, I love a good bath:) So many people say, Savasana, is the hardest pose to master. We hear it all the time in the yoga world, but you’ll be hooked the day you learn the beauty of mastering corpse pose. Laying down, thinking of nothing, is a rough task when our mind is going a million miles an hour. We are taught to multi-task. How much more can we get done in the day? What if you learned to erase the mind, and be still for just ten minutes? What could that do for you? Doesn’t it sound nice? If it doesn’t then you need this more then the rest. SLOW IT DOWN! Relax a bit, learn to go with the flow.
